Intel Core Duo Thinkpad T60

The biggest feature of the Thinkpad T60 is the fact that it is one of Lenovo’s first Centrino Duo capable notebooks.? The sample we got was in fact a Centrino Duo system as it was equipped with an Intel 945GM chipset, 3945ABG wireless solution and an Intel Core Duo T2600 (2.16GHz) processor.? IBM does offer other versions of the T60 that use the Core Duo processor but don’t meet the requirements to be called a Centrino Duo as well.?

Basically the same as its predecessor T-series notebooks did. The T60 body is a rugged plastic that does not flex. The magnesium reinforced lid won't flex and provides amazing protection for the screen. The keyboard does not flex -- at all. The thick metal hinges that attach the screen are very rigid and ensure the screen does not wobble. The keyboard is spill proof and has two drain holes to make sure if you do happen to spill your morning Starbucks coffee, the liquid is carried away from sensitive components and out through the bottom of the notebook. The hard drive is shock mounted and the entire chassis is a newly designed magnesium "roll cage" (it offers 30% more protection that past T-series chassis), and even if your T60 is dropped and broken the Active Protection System (APS) will stop hard drive activity to prevent data loss. The double screen latch system locks securely to make sure the screen stays down when being carried around. In other words, there's no shortcuts being used in build quality from past ThinkPad notebooks since the Lenovo takeover of IBM -- only enhancements.

The inside meant that this computer had an Intel chip inside meaning better performance than those other people, way back in 1993, not that Intel focused on the insides of the computer. Watch it and this will actually be bad for them. All those people won't even recognize the intel they knew with the new logo.

I admit it, I have no use for the Weener (Windows) keys. Its a pointless feature to have if you use other OSs or migrating AWAY from Windows. Its like Nvidia's chipset firewall solution...Another pointless feature for "Windows Only" users. (Which causes more trouble than its really worth).

With Lenovo adopting all these "everyone else has it" features, its not the same ThinkPad anymore. They don't stand out technologically, like they used to.

Granted, the fingerprint scanner and keyboard light is interesting, but that's all there is. My old R50 ThinkPad has a keyboard light as well. So I guess the only thing is the fingerprint scanner.

Like the ThinkPad Z61m, the ThinkPad T60 features a 15.4-inch wide-screen display with a 1,680x1,050 native resolution that affords a large amount of screen real estate (nearly 26 columns and 51 rows on the default Excel spreadsheet) but can make text appear small. Users who fall behind on their Vitamin A supplements can configure the T60 with a 1,280x800 resolution display. As with all ThinkPads, a reading light tucked into the bezel above the screen lets you illuminate the keyboard when working in dark environments. The T60 lacks the built-in Webcam found on the Z61m's display bezel.

As for ThinkVantage, that is useful...To some extent.

I tried to "clean restore" WinXP from the hidden partition (as Windows requires a clean installation after 2 or more years of use), and I get a crapload of errors. The Trackpoint or Touchpad seem to be no longer detected, and so on. And other error messages. I couldn't get past finishing the install. So I unhid that WinXP Partition, and formatted the sucker clean, gained 8GB back of HDD space. Which is enough for a quadriple boot...Win2k, Slackware, FreeBSD and Solaris. (And they all work fine with the Trackpoint/Touchpad).

In all Starting price is higher than comparable systems'; lacks a number of nonessential but fairly standard ports and connections. Sturdy, well-designed case; strong security features; full range of networking connections, including WWAN and Bluetooth; swappable internal bay; solid warranty terms and well-reputed support.

The Dell Inspiron 6000 is a very nice compromise between the different extremes of the laptop market. Weighing over 3 kg it is not an ultra-light machine, but it isn't a huge desktop replacement PC either. Instead it offers a bit of both, decent performance even with games, while still portable.

Thanks to its ATI Radeon Mobility X300 128 MB graphics card, which is an optional upgrade, the Dell Inspiron 6000 in this configuration scores a nice 3DMark03 benchmark of 2536, which is pretty much identical to an older desktop I have with a Radeon 9600 Pro. That means you can get all games to at least run on this laptop, even if the framerates in Doom 3 won't be nothing to write home about. It is also more than sufficient to watch DVDs on, although the DVD / CDRW drive is a bit on the noisy side.

The Dell Inspiron 6000 comes normally with a 6-cell battery. So I ordered a second battery, a 9-cell one, and for some reason unknown to me Dell decided to make both batteries 9-cell, instead of giving me a small and a big one. Nice, two of these 80 Wh batteries will last a complete transatlantic flight, each one giving up to 5 hours of power.

The Inspiron 6000 uses the standard Dell keyboard featuring many dedicated buttons. There are many functions available too including the wireless toggle, battery meter, and an eject button for the CD/DVD drive. You'll also find volume controls, brightness settings, and others have their own function keys too. The keyboard is comfortable to use and of a normal standard size for a 15 inch laptop. It's actually identical to the XPS2/9300 keyboard as well.

The Inspiron 6000 comes with two stereo speakers. The sound output is above what you'd expect from a laptop but nothing you'd want to play loud and brag about in public. There is no subwoofer on this system which does detract some from the sound experience. Most laptops don't have subwoofers so most people will be pleased with the sound coming from the 6000. It's much better than what my old Sony GRZ630 used to put out. One thing I like about the sound on the 6000 over my XPS2 is that there is little difference between sound off and sound level 1. It's a more steady increase in volume. >

This is a really simple point. This system has outstanding battery life. You can easily fit a 3 hour movie such as The Lord of the Rings into a single battery charge. The screen will need to be dimmed down half way but that's about all. You won't have much time afterwards to do anything else unfortunately. Get the 9-cell battery to enjoy more battery time if you need it.

charger circuits for use with Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal-Hydride (Ni-MH),
and Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries.

Slow Charge

A Li-Ion battery is unique, as it is charged from a fixed voltage source that is current lim-
ited (this is usually referred to as constant voltage charging).

The maximum rate of trickle charging which is safe for a given cell type is dependent on
both the battery chemistry and cell construction. When the cell is fully charged, contin-
ued charging causes gas to form within the cell. All of the gas formed must be able to
recombine internally, or pressure will build up within the cell eventually leading to gas
release through opening of the internal vent (which reduces the life of the cell).

Fast charge for Ni-Cd and Ni-MH is usually defined as a 1 hour recharge time, which
corresponds to a charge rate of about 1.2c. The vast majority of applications where
Ni-Cd and Ni-MH are used do not exceed this rate of charge.

It is important to note that fast charging can only be done safely if the cell temperature is
within 10-40°C, and 25°C is typically considered optimal for charging. Fast charging at

The Canon Battery Grip - Is it worth adding for the extra expense

If you own either a Canon EOS 400D, EOS 350 XTi, EOS 30D or the EOS 40D, you have probably either got or have considered adding an additional Canon battery grip.

Once I had added the Canon battery grip BG-ED3, all was well in my world once more. I wondered why Canon didn't make the cameras with the grip already attached and then realised that there has to be more distinction between the "semi-pro" range and the professional cameras (plus it is a nifty marketing ploy I must admit).

The additional grip for me adds certain functionality that I just couldn't do without, the main one being the vertical shutter release and controls. When you are shooting heavily with little time to play around, it is nice and so less awkward to be able to throw the camera into a vertical "portrait" position and feel just at home as in "landscape" mode.

This was all emphasised even more when I upgraded to the EOS 20D which Canon had made even smaller. In my hands it felt almost like a toy so the Canon battery grip BG-E2 was fitted immediately. Once again, all was well. See more info from Electronic Link

The way I tend to carry a camera has changed too. I very rarely have it around my neck and use the strap to wrap around my wrist for security (from dropping as well as "snatch" theft). I tend to hold it by one of the grips, either the built in side grip or the added battery pack grip.

As you can see from this image, by adding the Canon battery grip, both grips become the same length, again making life just a little easier. Also, don't forget one very important point...what the grip is really for...adding extra battery power!

The additional life in your camera could be the difference between getting all the shots and just most of the shots...quite an important issue if you shoot weddings etc. This battery grip now is onle manufactured for canon nikon, not for sony apple Toshiba.

If you haven't tried your camera with a grip, give it a go or better still just buy one, you won't be disappointed and it will add to the resale value when you come to upgrade and lets face it, they look good too! The best prices I have found, and where I bought my grip for the EOS 20D was B and H. They have just about every accessory you can think of at the best prices, and they deliver on time too.

This paper provides guidelines to reduce age-related capacity losses and how to prime new and stored batteries.

The recommended storage temperature for most batteries is 15°C (59°F). While lead-acid batteries must always be kept at full charge, nickel and lithium-based chemistries should be stored at 40% state-of-charge (SoC). This level minimizes age-related capacity loss, yet keeps the battery in operating condition even with some self-discharge. While the open terminal voltage of nickel-based batteries cannot be used to determine the SoC accurately, voltage fuel gauging works well for lithium-ion cells. However, differences in the electrochemistry of the electrodes and electrolyte between manufacturers vary the voltage profile slightly. A SoC of 50% reads about 3.8V; 40% is 3.75V. Store lithium-ion at an open terminal voltage of 3.75-3.80V. Allow the battery to rest 90 minutes after charge before taking the voltage reading.

Battery, can be any device tdat stores energy for later use. the word battery, is limited to an electrochemical device tdat converts chemical energy into electricity, by use of a galvanic cell. A galvanic cell is a fairly simple device consisting of two electrodes (an anode and a catdode) and an electrolyte solution. Batteries consist of one or more galvanic cells.

A battery is an electrical storage device. Batteries do not make electricity, tdey store it. As chemicals in the battery change, electrical energy is stored or released. In rechargeable batteries tdis process can be repeated many times. Batteries are not 100% efficient - some energy is lost as tdere are heat and chemical reactions when charging and discharging. If you use 1000 watts from a battery, it might take 1200 watts or more to fully recharge it. Slower charging and discharging rates are more efficient. A battery rated at 180 amp-hours over 6 hours might be rated at 220 AH at the 20-hour rate, and 260 AH at the 48-hour rate. Typical efficiency in a lead-acid battery is 85-95%, in alkaline and Ni-Cd battery it is about 65%.

Storing primary batteries (D's, C's, AA's, AAA's, 9 volt, etc.) in a cooler environment slows down tdis rate of discharge tdat all batteries experience even when not in use, hence a longer shelf life. However, if tdis is done, it is important tdat the batteries be kept as dry as possible by keeping tdem in an airtight container in the driest part of the refrigerator, the door side for example. Long time exposure to moisture inside the refrigerator can cause internal corrosion to the battery. When removing batteries from the refrigerator, allow tdem to warm up to room temperature before using tdem in your device.

If you don't plan on using the acer laptop battery for a month or more, we recommend storing it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. Ni-Cd, Ni-MH and Li-Ion batteries will self-discharge during storage; remember to break them in before use.

batteries can lose 8 to 20 percent of their original charge every year at a temperature of about 20°–30°C. The rate of the side reactions is reduced if the batteries are stored at low temperature. Battery life can be extended by storing the batteries at a low temperature, as in a refrigerator or freezer, because the chemical reactions in the batteries are slower.

1): Store it in a cool and dry place (The suitable temperature is about 15°C).

2): Before storage, you should confirm your hp laptop battery is not fully depleted. If empty, charge for about 30 minutes .

3): Usually a lithium-ion battery should be stored at about 40% state-of-charge, because laptop battery's self discharge can break the battery in the storage .

4): Use soft and dry cloth to clean your battery after using it.

5): Please take out the Sharp BT-H21 battery from your machine when it is not being used.

7)Never leave a nickel-based battery sitting on a charger for more than a few days. Prolonged trickle charge causes crystalline formation (memory).

(6)Always store a lead acid battery in full-charge condition. Observe the open terminal voltage and recharge the battery every 6 months or as recommended by the manufacturer.

Li-ion comes partially charged. You can use the laptop battery right away and charge it when needed.

Full charge termination occurs by reading the voltage level and charge current. Charging a full battery is safe and does not cause harm.

When fully charge, the charger automatically cuts the charge current when the battery is full. A laptop may be connected to the AC when not in use.

Best to store at 40% charge or 3.75-3.80V/cell open terminal. Cool storage is more important than state-of-charge. Do not fully deplete battery because Li-ion may turn off its protection circuit.

Exercise the Battery. Do not leave a charged battery dormant for long periods of time. Once charged, you should at least use the battery at least once every two to three weeks. Also, do not let a Li-On battery completely discharge. (Discharing is only for older batteries with memory effects)

When charging the laptop battery for the first time your charging device may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Simply remove the battery from the charging device and repeat the charging procedure.

It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the laptop battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery's life (this does not apply to Li-Ion batteries, which do not require conditioning). To discharge, simply run your device under the battery's power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in your user's manual.

Never, ever try to charge nonrechargeable batteries such as disposable carbon-zinc, alkaline or lithium cells. It's dangerous—some types can overheat and even explode—and it just plain doesn't work.

Although rechargeable batteries may be refreshed by charging, they still suffer degradation through usage. Low-capacity Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries (1700-2000 mA·h) can be charged for about 1000 cycles, whereas high capacity NiMH batteries (above 2500 mA·h) can be charged for about 500 cycles.

1):When you prepare to charge for your Dell laptop battery ,make sure the temperature is around the room temperature.
2): Most battery can be fully charged in about 3 hours so do not leave a battery in a charger for a long time.
3): Do not charged to higher voltages than its threshold voltage ,as it would become unsafe. Especially need to pay attention is avoid over-charging and over-discharging.
4): Please notice this: It is not very distinct to reduce the charge time by increasing the charge current .
5)When your laptop adapter is working, it can disturb your radio and TV. So take multi-charger away from them.
